Pat Kenny has a diverse work experience in the field of fire and emergency services. Pat has served as the Director of Fire and Emergency Services, Fire Chief, and Emergency Manager for the Village of Western Springs since 2011. Prior to that, they were the Deputy Fire Chief for the same village from 2008 to 2010. Beginning in 1982, they served as the Fire Chief for the Village of Hinsdale until 2008. In addition to their work in the fire service, Pat Kenny has also held the role of Assistant Executive Director for the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association from 2010 to 2011. Pat has written articles on mental health, leadership, fire safety, and fire code challenges and has served as a keynote speaker and workshop leader, advocating for mental health awareness and breaking the stigma surrounding mental illness. Recently, they have authored a book titled "TAKING THE CAPE OFF: How to Lead Through Mental Illness, Unimaginable Grief, and Loss," sharing their personal journey and promoting the understanding of mental illness as a physical illness.
Pat Kenny has an education history that includes various degrees and fields of study. In 1975, they attended Loyola University Chicago and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Applied Psychology, completing their studies in 1979. Following this, from 1988 to 1990, they attended the College of DuPage, where they earned an Associates Degree in Fire Science/Fire-fighting. Finally, from 1995 to 1999, Pat Kenny attended the USFA National Fire Academy, where they obtained an Executive Fire Officer degree in Fire Services Administration.
