Ian Potter is the current President & Chief Executive Officer at Vineland Research. Prior to this, they held the position of Senior Affiliate at IMC from July 2018 to March 2019, and Vice President Engineering at National Research Council Canada from May 2011 to May 2018.
Ian has over 20 years of experience in management consulting, focusing on innovation management, strategic planning, project planning and assessment, due diligence oversight, operations management and program implementation. Ian also has extensive experience in leading and managing large teams, as well as overseeing facilities and equipment infrastructure.
Throughout their career, Ian has been responsible for the strategic direction, operation and client key account management for various divisions and portfolios. Ian has also chaired the NRC Diversity Committee and the NRC National Committee on Occupational Safety and Health.
Ian’s experience and expertise have been invaluable in their current role as Chief Executive Officer at Vineland Research, where they are responsible for leading the organization’s research and innovation initiatives.
Ian Potter received a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng)Hons in Marine Engineering from the Royal Naval Engineering College Manadon. Ian then went on to earn a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary. After that, they completed a Master of Science (MSc) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary. Ian also has a HTEC Diploma in Marine Engineering from Southampton College of Higher Education and a TEC Diploma in Marine Engineering from the School of Maritime Studies Plymouth. Finally, they are a Chartered Engineer and a Chartered Marine Engineer.
