James L.

James L. has over 20 years of work experience in tax planning and oversight. James currently holds the position of Senior Director, Tax at Vir Biotechnology, Inc. which they started in 2022. Prior to this role, they worked at Amgen for nearly 20 years in various tax-related positions, including Senior Tax Counsel & Tax Director. At Amgen, they were responsible for overseeing U.S. Tax Planning and Worldwide Regional Tax in the ELMAC and JAPAC regions. Before joining Amgen, James worked as a Senior Manager at KPMG from 1999 to 2003.

James L. holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Economy, cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Colorado College. James also studied Intermediate & Advanced Accounting at UCLA Extension. James obtained a JD in Law from USC Gould School of Law. James furthered their education by earning a Master of Business Tax with a specialization in Taxation from the University of Southern California. In addition, they are a member of the State Bar of California.
