Joana Amaral

Joana Amaral, DVM, is an accomplished veterinary consultant with extensive experience in clinical product development and regulatory affairs within the veterinary field. Currently, Joana is employed at Virbac as a Veterinary Consultant, specializing in the planning and implementation of efficacy clinical trials across Europe and the US, and leading pivotal clinical studies. Prior to this role, Joana served as a Research Scientist at Elanco, where responsibilities included managing in vivo effectiveness studies and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Joana also held the position of Deputy European Qualified Person for Pharmacovigilance, overseeing pharmacovigilance processes and liaising with regulatory authorities. Joana's earlier experience includes surgical and internal medicine practice as a Veterinary Surgeon and regulatory oversight in the meat industry as an Official Veterinary Surgeon. Educational qualifications include a Veterinary Medicine degree from the Technical University of Lisbon and specialized studies in meat hygiene and small animal veterinary medicine from the University of Bristol and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.
