Akhira McFarland

Akhira (Mims) McFarland is an experienced professional in the field of social services, currently serving as a Self Sufficiency Case Specialist with the Department of Human Services since January 2005. Previous roles include Nursery Manager at Bethel Temple Church from January 2010 to December 2019, Youth Coordinator for the City of Hampton Youth Commission during early 2003, and Youth Involvement Facilitator/Intern with the City of Newport News Office on Youth Development from August 1997 to May 2002. Akhira holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Old Dominion University, where studies took place from 1998 to 2002, following education at Heritage High School from 1996 to 1998.
