Jim Gower is an experienced professional in emergency management and incident coordination, currently serving as the District Incident Management Coordinator for the Virginia Department of Transportation since April 2022. Prior to this role, Jim held the position of Area Incident Management Coordinator at US Facilities/VDOT. With a long tenure at the Newport News Fire Department from August 1993 to April 2022, Jim advanced through various ranks, including Assistant Fire Chief - EMS and Battalion Chief - Special Operations, where oversight included Specialty Teams, radio communications, and grant management. Additionally, Jim commanded the Bomb Squad and contributed to the Hampton Roads Incident Management Team. Jim earned an Associate of Arts and Sciences degree in Fire Science/Fire-fighting from Tidewater Community College.
