Director of Medicaid Financial Policy at Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association (VHHA)

Emily Lafon has a diverse work experience that includes roles at different organizations. Emily started as a Program Support Technician at the Virginia Department of Health in March 2013 and was responsible for providing administrative support, grant packages, inventory management, and other duties. In August 2014, they were promoted to Health Promotion Coordinator and later to Planning & Services Coordinator in March 2016, where they performed duties such as budget management, policy analysis, and delivering internal and external training events.

In October 2013, they joined Plan Sponsor Adviser, LLC, as an Analyst and worked there until February 2020. At the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, Emily worked as a Financial and Policy Analyst from January 2019 to April 2021 and became the Executive Budget Manager the following month. During their time there, they analyzed budgets, policies, and regulatory proposals, and served as project manager for various initiatives.

Emily's latest work experience is as the Director of Medicaid Financial Policy at the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association (VHHA). Emily joined in March 2023 and is responsible for overseeing the Virginia Hospital Supplemental Payment Program, interpreting financial policies and researching complex financial actions, and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with different stakeholders.

Emily Lafon received their Master's in Public Administration with a focus on Public Financial Management from Virginia Tech Graduate School between 2018 and 2020. Emily also attained a Bachelor of Science degree cum laude in Human Development from Virginia Tech between 2008 and 2012. Before attending college, Emily graduated from Deep Run High School in 2008, where they focused on the Center for Information Technology. The field of study for their high school diploma was not specified.
