Alex Cecil

Alex Nyerges is an accomplished museum leader with over 40 years of experience in the art world. Since July 2006, Alex has served as Director and CEO of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, where strategic planning and leadership have led to significant expansions, including the new McGlothlin Wing and state-of-the-art facilities. Previously, Alex held the same title at the Dayton Art Institute from July 1992 to July 2006, achieving remarkable growth in audience and collections. Earlier roles include Director and CEO of the Mississippi Museum of Art, where Alex established the nation's first state-wide art museum branch network, and Director of the DeLand Museum of Art, transforming it into a vibrant institution. Alex holds a Master of Fine Arts in Museum Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in American Civilization, Anthropology, and Archaeology from The George Washington University.
