Robert Shoup

Chorus Master and Staff Conductor at Virginia Symphony Orchestra

Robert Shoup is a dedicated music educator and conductor with extensive experience in various roles within the music community. Currently serving as the Founding Artistic Director of The Norfolk Street Choir Project since July 2020, Robert established a choir for individuals affected by poverty and homelessness. In addition, Robert is the Director of Music at Second Presbyterian Church of Norfolk, where responsibilities include innovative worship programming during the COVID-19 pandemic. With a career spanning over two decades, Robert has served as Chorus Master and Conductor for the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Director of Music Ministry at Freemason Street Baptist Church, and held teaching positions at Christopher Newport University and Virginia Wesleyan College. Robert holds a Master of Music in Conducting from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Duquesne University.
