James Farwell is a distinguished academic with extensive experience in theology and liturgy. Currently serving as a Professor of Theology and Liturgy at Virginia Theological Seminary since July 2012, James previously held positions as a Professor of Religious Studies and Philosophy at Bethany College from July 2007 to June 2012, and as an Associate Professor and Assistant Professor of Liturgics at General Theological Seminary from July 2002 to June 2007. James holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Religion/Religious Studies from Emory University, a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) from The General Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Philosophy from The Catholic University of America.
