Terrell then transitioned to International Trainers, Educators, and Consultants, where they worked as an Investment Consultant. In this role, they provided consultation and advice on real estate, stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. Terrell also acted as an expert witness in real estate and finance matters and facilitated a major residential acquisition in Mexico.
Terrell then joined the FDIC Department of Supervision as a Law Clerk, followed by a position at Merrill Lynch as a Private Banker. At Merrill Lynch, Terrell managed a team and provided financial planning services to institutions, organizations, and high net worth individuals.
Terrell's most recent role was as the Founder and CEO of Virtus Real Estate Capital. In this position, they led the organization in corporate strategy, investment strategy, and brand development. Terrell was responsible for sourcing, underwriting, due diligence, and asset management of 240 properties, totaling approximately $4.3 billion in value.

Terrell Gates attended The University of Texas at Austin from 1991 to 1993, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Spanish. Terrell then continued their education at the same institution from 1993 to 1995, earning another Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree, this time in Business Economics. Later, from 1996 to 1999, Terrell Gates attended Southern Methodist University and completed a Doctor of Law (J.D.) degree.
