Michael Edwards is currently the Managing & Scientific Director at VirTus Respiratory Research Ltd., a specialist contract research organisation in the respiratory space. Prior to this, Michael worked as a Senior Lecturer in Respiratory Medicine & Infections at Imperial College London. Michael has a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Immunology from UNSW and a Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology and Immunology. Michael also founded Therapeutic Frontiers, a respiratory-focused CRO.

Virtus' mission is to bring breakthrough treatments to respiratory patients faster. Founded by Professor Sebastian Johnston and Dr Michael Edwards, the team have over 25 years of experience in viral challenge studies, including rhinovirus (RV) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) human challenge studies. Areas of specialism include asthma, COPD, respiratory allergies, chronic cough and respiratory virus infections (vaccines & antivirals).
