Carlos A. Ramirez is a seasoned data science professional with extensive experience in leading teams and developing advanced algorithms. Currently serving as the Director of Data Science at Visa since March 2021, Carlos is focused on risk management solutions utilizing XGBoost models and big data technologies such as PySpark, Scala, Hadoop, and Hive. Prior to this role, Carlos worked at Beckman Coulter for nearly 17 years as a Senior Staff Software Engineer, where involvement in research and development led to the creation of 13 patents related to real-time clustering and classification of multidimensional data. Carlos began an academic career as an Associate Professor of Informatics at the Universidad Nacional Experimental del Táchira, teaching various subjects and founding the Bioengineering Research Group.
