About the Job

Visby is seeking a Global Sourcing Manager to join our Supply Chain team. This role has the responsibility for leading and managing mechanical component and assembly sourcing and procurement globally. This position will be based at the San Jose, CA HQ location. This position will report to the Head of Strategic Sourcing.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Drive the sourcing and supplier selection process for mechanical components and assemblies to support Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations goals and objectives.
  • Develop mature and reliable should cost models, driving bottoms up part design strategies and negotiations.
  • Evaluate and recommend plastic designs, with a focus on proposing changes for cost reduction and ease of manufacturability.
  • Develop and implement sourcing and cost management strategies that support existing platforms and new product development.
  • Develop and implement business continuity plans for critical components.
  • Assess market conditions, identify industry best practices and emerging trends to identify new cost reduction and value creation opportunities.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to find, assess, and select suppliers that will improve value to the organization and help attain targeted business results.
  • Negotiate and implement appropriate contracts with suppliers.
  • Communicate the demand forecast where appropriate to ensure supply continuity, and capacity availability.
  • Analysis of technical and business risks and development strategies for mitigation.
  • Present strategies and proposals to C-Suite management, including CEO engagement.

On Your First Day We’d Like You to Have

  • 5-10 years of experience in procurement or supply chain management, including experience managing mechanical component and assembly sourcing and procurement.
  • Proven experience creating mature and reliable should cost models, as well as experience driving successful negotiations with these models.
  • Strong understanding / proven experience driving injection molded tool DFMs, tool design risk analysis, cavitation quantity justification, tool life justification, etc.
  • Effective management of component sourcing within a manufacturing environment; RFP/RFQ, supplier selection, project execution, cost and timing management and project close activities.
  • Excellent project management and cross-functional team leadership skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at any level.
  • Strong analytical, research, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to travel globally, up to 25%.
  • Previous experience in working with contract manufacturers, domestic and offshore.
  • Strong ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines; able to balance short-term, urgent needs with long-term strategic initiatives.

It’s Great If You Have

  • Speak Spanish and/or Mandarin/Cantonese
  • Technical degree with career experience in a technical role driving tool design / plastic manufacturing.
  • Experience working in the diagnostics industry and/or engaging with suppliers contributing to the Diagnostics supply chain.

Unique Aspects of the Job (examples)

  • Travel: 10-25%
  • Schedule: 3 days per week minimum onsite in San Jose
  • Physical aspects: Standing, sitting, walking, repetitive movement, safe chemicals handling, safe lifting, etc.

Salary range: 

  • $115,000 - $140,000 (Salary range for candidates based in San Jose, CA)
  • Compensation for the role is based on geographical location. 
  • Compensation also depends on a number of factors including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
