David Michaels is a prominent academic and public health leader with extensive experience in environmental and occupational health. Currently serving as a Professor in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at The George Washington University since 2001, Michaels specializes in teaching graduate-level courses on health policy and epidemiology. Michaels held significant roles in federal government, including serving as the longest-serving Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health from 2009 to 2017 and as Assistant Secretary of Energy for Environment, Safety and Health from 1998 to 2001. An alumnus of Columbia University, Michaels holds a PhD in Sociomedical Sciences and a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology, along with a Bachelor of Arts from The City College of New York. Additionally, Michaels engages in public speaking on health-related issues.
