Marcus Davey

Vice President Preclinical Research at Vitara Biomedical

Marcus Davey is an experienced research professional with 25+ years of experience in translational medical research laboratories and as a PI on NIH-sponsored research. Marcus has held various roles in different organizations since 1999. In 1999, they began their career as a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where they focused on fetal interventions in experimental models of human disease and gained experience with molecular biology and histological techniques, and fetal surgery techniques. In 2004, they joined the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine as a Research Assistant Professor, where they were the Primary Investigator and performed preclinical studies focusing on surgical and pharmacological strategies in experimental models of human disease. In 2007, they were a Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. In 2013, they joined the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia again as a Senior Research Associate, where they were a co-investigator and "lead-tinkerer" on the Extracorporeal Support for Preterm Infant Research Program. Marcus also co-developed an artificial womb to provide prolonged (up to four weeks), physiologic support for extreme prematurity in a preclinical animal model, and was the Study Director on a Food and Drug Administration Early Feasibility Animal Trial to evaluate clinical translation of this groundbreaking technology. In 2019, they became an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, bringing their experience to the table and providing project support to academic researchers at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in The Centers for Fetal Research and Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery. In 2020, they were appointed as Vice President Preclinical Research at Vitara Biomedical.

Marcus Davey attended Monash University from 1990-1995, graduating with a Bachelor of Science - BS (Honors) in Developmental Physiology, Pharmacology / Toxicology. Marcus then returned to Monash University from 1996-1999 to obtain their Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Prenatal therapy for fetal lung growth disorders.
