Founded by Arto and Aila Viita-aho, VM Carpet's story began in a small rug factory by Lake Lappajärvi in 1973. Today, the family business thrives with active participation from three Viita-aho children. The employees of Viita-aho rug factory are an integral part of the family, some having been with the company for over 30 years.

The company takes responsibility by minimizing environmental impact and prioritizing sustainable practices and materials in every finished rug. VM Carpet takes pride in manufacturing and dyeing natural materials, such as paper cord, in-house.
