Katy (Milarta) Avila, MBA, SPHR, SHRM-SCP

Katy Avila, MBA, SPHR, SHRM-SCP has extensive experience in human resources and leadership roles. Katy is currently serving as the Chief People Officer at VMG Health since June 2023. Prior to that, they were the Chief Human Resources Officer/EVP at WIS International from October 2021 to June 2023, where they played a key role in integrating multiple organizations into a unified company. Previously, Katy worked as the Head of HR/Vice President at Worldwide Express from June 2016 to October 2021, overseeing HR operations for a leading freight broker. Katy also served as the Head of HR/Director at Solis Mammography from October 2011 to June 2016, where they focused on breast health services. Before that, they were the Head of HR/Corporate Director at Aimbridge Hospitality from April 2004 to April 2011, where they played a pivotal role in the company's growth as the largest third-party management company in the US. Katy started their career as an Operations Manager at Texas Wings from March 2002 to October 2003. Katy then moved on to become the Director of Food and Beverage at SEGA GAMEWORKS LLC CORPORATE OFFICES from February 2000 to January 2002. Katy began their career in the restaurant industry, completing a management training program at Ruby Tuesday and subsequently serving as an Assistant General Manager from May 1996 to February 2000.

Katy (Milarta) Avila has a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resource Management/Organizational Psychology from Syracuse University - Martin J. Whitman School of Management. Katy also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a focus on Human Resources/Organizational Behavior from the University of North Texas G. Brint Ryan College of Business.

In addition to their academic qualifications, Katy has obtained several certifications. In 2005, they earned the Certified Human Resources Executive (CHRE) certification from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute. In 2012, they obtained the Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) certification from the HR Certification Institute, as well as the SHRM - Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification from SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management).
