Elton Cheung 张文础 has over 20 years of work experience, beginning in 1997 as an Attorney At Law at Herbert Smith Freehills. In 1998, they moved to Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer as a Senior Associate. In 2006, they joined Morgan Stanley as Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer, China, where they were responsible for the front-to-back operations of all Morgan Stanley's business platforms in China, as well as being responsible for risk management decisions across all risk disciplines, internal infrastructure management, and other operational matters for the country. Elton also sat on the Asia Franchise Committee, China Management Committee, China Risk Management Committee, Investment Committee for the RMB PE Fund, and board of directors of various CSRC or CBRC regulated entities. In addition, they were the Head of Greater China Legal, overseeing the private equity, real estate and infrastructure fund businesses across the Asia-Pacific region. In 2018, Elton Cheung 张文础 joined JIDA Capital as Managing Partner and CEO, where they managed the firm’s entire business, including designing overall strategic direction with other partners and leading its implementation, maintaining senior stakeholder relationships, investment control cycle and asset management, overall company operations, risk management, internal governance, and culture-building. Elton also sat on the Investment Committee and Asset Management Committee of its managed funds. In 2021, Elton Cheung 张文础 joined VMS Group as Partner and Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Legal Officer.

Elton Cheung 张文础 attended St Joseph’s College, Hong Kong from 1985 to 1990, where they received their Secondary School degree. Elton then attended Newington College from 1990 to 1992, where they received their Higher School Certificate. From 1992 to 1996, they attended the University of Sydney, where they earned a combined Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Economics degree, with a focus on Economics and Law. Finally, they attended The College of Law Australia in 1997.
