David Smuts

David Smuts is a seasoned professional in the fields of data privacy, regulatory compliance, and project management, currently serving as the Managing Executive and Group Privacy Officer at Vodacom since April 2023. Previously, David held various leadership roles at FirstRand Group, including Head of Data Privacy and Protection and Head of Regulatory and Conduct Risk Management Operations and Privacy, from January 2016 to April 2023. David's experience includes serving as Senior Manager for Regulatory Compliance at MTN from April 2009 to December 2015 and various managerial positions at EY, MTN, and Nedbank, with a career that began in project management. David holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Biochemistry from the University of the Free State, an Advanced Diploma in Project Management from Cranefield College, and a Certificate in Compliance Management from the University of Cape Town.
