Hans Michel Piëch

Supervisory Board Member at Volkswagen Group

Dr. Hans Michel Piëch has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen AG since 2009.

Piëch was born in Vienna, Austria, on January 10, 1942. He was awarded his Matura (upper secondary diploma) in 1963 and subsequently graduated from the University of Vienna with a degree in law in 1968. He obtained a doctorate in law in 1970.

He began his professional career with Gulf Oil in Pittsburgh, USA, in 1970. He became managing director of Porsche KG in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1971. Piëch has practiced as an independent attorney since 1977.

Piëch has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Porsche Holding GmbH in Salzburg, Austria, since 1975 and a member of the Supervisory Board of Porsche AG, Stuttgart, Germany, since 1989. He has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Porsche SE since 2007 and since 2009 he is a member of the Supervisory Board of Audi AG and part of the Executive Committee of Audi AG since 2016.

Dr Hans Michel Piëch has specialist knowledge of the automotive industry thanks to his years of work for the respective supervisory bodies, at Porsche Holding in Salzburg and Porsche AG in Stuttgart since the beginning of the 90s. Furthermore, he has extensive knowledge and experience in the areas of law and compliance including capital markets and corporate governance, corporate strategy and international sales and marketing. In addition, he is particularly experienced in interacting and working with trade unions and the press.
