John Lydeard

Vice President, Head of Discovery & Molecular Engineering at Vor Biopharma

John Lydeard has a diverse work experience in the field of biology and molecular engineering. John has held leadership positions at Vor Bio since 2017, starting as the Head of Molecular & Cell Biology and progressing to the Senior Director and Vice President roles. In their current role as Vice President, Head of Discovery & Molecular Engineering, they oversee the discovery and development of molecular therapies.

Prior to their time at Vor Bio, John worked at Biogen as a Scientist, specializing in Cell and Gene Therapy. John contributed to research in epigenetics and gene therapy, holding both Scientist II and Scientist I roles.

Before joining Biogen, John worked as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School. John'sresearch focused on proteomic and genetic characterization of ubiquitin signaling pathways. John collaborated with internal and external groups and received the Damon Runyon Post-Doctoral Fellowship during this time.

Furthermore, John has experience as a Postdoctoral Researcher and Graduate Student at Brandeis University, where they investigated DNA double-strand break repair mechanisms. John designed methods to investigate HDR mechanisms and characterized DNA repair mechanisms in S. cerevisiae.

John also worked as a Research Associate at Genstruct, Inc., where they gained expertise in data-driven drug discovery. John contributed to research in protein evolution and therapeutics.

Additionally, John worked as a Research Associate at Phylos Inc., where they were involved in the development of high-affinity protein binders for therapeutics. John employed RNA display technology and contributed to the development of high-throughput methods.

In their early career, John worked as an Undergraduate Research Technician at Brandeis University, focusing on DNA repair and mutation avoidance in E. coli.

Overall, John Lydeard has leveraged their expertise in molecular biology, protein engineering, and genomics to contribute to diverse research projects and hold leadership positions in the biotechnology industry.

John Lydeard earned their Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Brandeis University, where they attended from 1997 to 2001. John later pursued further education at the same institution and obtained a PhD degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology, completing their studies from 2003 to 2009.
