Elias Giacoumidis has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of electrical and electronic engineering. Elias has held various roles in different companies and universities, starting from 2007 to the present.

Elias'srecent work includes working as a Project Manager and Principal Application Engineer at VPIphotonics since July 2021. Additionally, Elias worked as a Senior Research Fellow at Heriot-Watt University from February 2017 to October 2017, researching secure optical communication systems, and also as a Visiting Researcher at Bristol University during that time.

Elias has also held positions as a Senior Research Fellow and Project Leader at the University of Sydney, where they led the CUDOS Photonics flagship project and conducted research in optical transmission systems and nonlinear photonics from April 2015 to January 2017.

Furthermore, they worked as a Research Fellow at Aston University from June 2013 to March 2015, focusing on optical transmission systems for access, long-reach passive optical networks (PONs), and next-generation core networks.

Elias'sprevious experience also includes working as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Télécom ParisTech from June 2012 to May 2013, where they conducted theoretical research in collaboration with Orange-Labs/France Telecom in 1 Tbit/sec optical long-haul transmission systems.

Before that, as a Senior Research Development Scientist at Athens Information Technology from June 2011 to May 2012, Elias led work packages for various EU-FP7 research projects and worked on advanced modulation formats and multiplexing techniques for LANs and next-generation PONs.

Lastly, they have worked as a Research Officer & Assistant Lecturer at Bangor University from November 2007 to May 2011, where they conducted research in high-speed optical networks and taught modules on Electronic Engineering Design and Applications.

Elias Giacoumidis has a diverse education history. Elias began their academic journey by earning an advanced diploma in Computer Systems from the University of South Wales in 2000. Elias then went on to complete a Bachelor's Degree in Electronic Engineering at Cardiff University from 2000 to 2003. Following this, they pursued a Master's Degree in Control Systems at The University of Sheffield from 2003 to 2004. Finally, they obtained their highest level of education, a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Optical Communications & High-Speed Networks from Bangor University, which they completed between 2006 and 2010.
