Prof.humaid al-Shamsi

Prof. Humaid Al-Shamsi has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of oncology. Prof.Humaid is currently the Regional Director of Burjeel Oncology GCC and the Director of Oncology Services at Burjeel Holdings. Prof.Humaid is also the Chair of the Emirati Board of Hematology & Oncology at the Institute for Health Specialties.

Prof. Al-Shamsi holds various leadership positions including Chairman of the Colon Cancer Guideline Committee - Middle East and North Africa at the National Comprehensive Cancer Network® and President of the Emirates Oncology Society.

Prof.Humaid has played a significant role in the field of cancer research and innovation as the Director of the Innovation and Research Center at VPS Healthcare, where they founded the first cancer research center in the United Arab Emirates. Prof.Humaid is also the Director of the Burjeel Cancer Institute (BCI) & VPS Oncology at VPS Healthcare.

Earlier in their career, they worked as a Medical Oncologist at Alzahra Hospital Dubai and MD Anderson Cancer Center. Prof.Humaid also served as a Military Officer in the UAE Armed Forces. Prof. Al-Shamsi has teaching experience as an Adjunct Clinical Professor at the University of Sharjah and as a Medical Oncologist at McMaster University.

Prof. Humaid Al-Shamsi's education history includes a degree in MB BMedSc Bch BOA from University College Cork in 2005. Prof.Humaid also obtained a Scottish high school certificate from Ayr College in 1997.

Prof.Humaid completed the Internal Medicine Residency Program at McMaster University from 2007 to 2010, earning the FRCPC and ABIM degrees.

From 2010 to 2012, Prof. Al-Shamsi completed the Medical Oncology Residency Program at McMaster University, earning the FRCP Medical Oncology and ABIM Medical Oncology degrees.

In 2012 and 2013, they pursued a clinical fellowship in Gastrointestinal Oncology and Palliative Oncology combined clinical and research fellowship at McMaster University.

Prof. Al-Shamsi also holds several additional certifications, including Fellow American College of Physicians (FACP) from the American College of Physicians (ACP) in 2013, American Board In Medical Oncology - ABIM Board Certified from the American Board of Medical Specialties in 2011, Medical Oncology specialist certification - FRCP(C) Medical Oncology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) in 2011, Membership Royal College of Physician of United Kingdom - MRCP (UK) Medical Oncology from the Royal College of Physician of United Kingdom in 2011, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in 2011, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Specialty exam - FRCP(C) Internal Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) in 2011, and American Board In Internal Medicine - ABIM Board Certified from the American Board of Medical Specialties in 2010.
