Jake Michael has a diverse work experience that spans from 2016 to 2022. Jake began their career in 2016 as a Controls Engineer for New Sky Energy, Inc. where they developed logic to monitor and adjust R&D lab experiments with PAC Control (Opto22). Jake also programmed a control system for a large-scale reactor column and designed aspects of a graphical user interface (GUI) for lab scientists. In 2017, Jake worked as a Mechanical Engineer for both Alliance Power, Inc. and Micromotion. At Alliance Power, Inc., they were responsible for engineering and project management for the world's first utility scale liquid propane fueled powerplant (28 MW) and designed and specified electrical and mechanical subsystems for a 12.5 MW solar and battery energy storage system. In 2021, Jake began working as a Student Assistant IoT Embedded Firmware at the University of Colorado Boulder. In this role, they assisted students in understanding concepts such as scheduling, timers, interrupts, MCU peripherals, and low power event based firmware designs for the Internet of Things Embedded Firmware course. Jake also helped students debug low level, machine centric firmware. Currently, Jake is an Embedded Engineer at Vutility.
Jake Michael has a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering and a Minor in Applied Mathematics from the University of Colorado Boulder, which they obtained between 2013 and 2017. Jake then attended the University of Colorado Denver for Computer Science Continuing Education between 2018 and 2019. Jake is currently pursuing a Master of Science (MS) in Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems from the University of Colorado Boulder, which they are expected to complete in 2022.
