Alvaro Cuervo

Alvaro Cuervo has a diverse work experience in the field of data engineering and software development. Alvaro started their career as a Computer Engineer at Final Information Solutions, where they developed software using Java and .NET. Later, they worked as a Business Consultant CRM at Mind of Colombia, where they participated in CRM system design and integration, as well as implementing ETL processes.

At Fiducafe – Bancafe, Alvaro worked as a Computer Engineer (Executive Trustee), analyzing, designing, and developing web software for the banking sector. Alvaro then joined ASIC Engineering as a Specialist, managing the technical component of JDEdwards ERP and functional SalesLogix CRM, as well as developing .NET applications.

Alvaro spent a significant portion of their career at TSI Sports INC [Soccer Federation of Quebec], where they worked as a Software Developer Analyst. Alvaro was responsible for developing and maintaining web and mobile applications using VB.NET, C#, and Python-Django.

In 2007, Alvaro became a University Professor at Universidad EAN, teaching programming software courses and coordinating a research group. Alvaro also worked at National Bank of Canada as a Data Engineer, where they developed Python scripts for validation tasks, data ingestion, and data consumption. Alvaro was involved in the creation and maintenance of data pipelines and the initial load into the cloud data warehouse.

After that, Alvaro joined Velan Inc. as a Data Engineering Specialist, specializing in the creation and maintenance of data pipelines using R and Python. Alvaro also worked on the conception and migration of the data platform to Microsoft Azure, including storage, ADF, Databricks, and SQL Database. Alvaro was involved in report development using Power BI.

Most recently, Alvaro worked at Laps as a Data Engineer before joining Wahi in 2022, where they currently hold the position of Data Engineer.

Alvaro Cuervo's education history begins with their Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from Escuela Colombiana de Ingeniería Julio Garavito, which they obtained from 1998 to 2003. Alvaro then pursued a Telematics and e-business Specialization from the same institution, which they completed from 2003 to 2004.

Later, Alvaro attended Université de Sherbrooke where they specialized in Information Technology from 2015 to 2017. Following this, they enrolled at Collège de Bois-de-Boulogne from 2018 to 2019 to pursue a degree in Big Data and Business Intelligence (mégadonnées et intelligence d’affaires).

In 2020, Alvaro Cuervo completed the Data Engineering Nanodegree from Udacity.

Alvaro also holds several additional certifications. Alvaro obtained the "Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Fundamentals" certification from Microsoft in March 2021. In October 2020, they received the "Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals" certification, also from Microsoft. Alvaro additionally achieved the "Microsoft Azure Exam DP-200 - Implementing an Azure Data Solution" certification from Linux Academy in September 2020. Alvaro obtained the "AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner" certification from Amazon Web Services (AWS) in May 2020. Furthermore, they have certifications in "Big Data Analytics on Azure" from Cloud Academy, Inc. and "Snowflake Fundamentals 4-Day" from Snowflake, though the specific dates of attainment are not provided.
