Liz Makarra

Director, Emergency Operations & Community Wellness at Waikiki Health

Prior to becoming the Director of Emergency Operations & Community Wellness, Liz worked as a manager of Waikiki Health’s Marketing & Development department and was the health center’s Senior Disaster Relief Coordinator. Liz began her training in disaster relief in 2010 with NGO, Global Health Network International and the American Red Cross, and continued developing emergency operations planning skills when she came aboard Waikiki Health in 2013 as Disaster Relief Coordinator.

Liz is very involved in the community as an Alliance Board and development committee member of the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii, and also represents Waikiki Health at the Hawaii Healthcare Emergency Management Coalition (HHEMC) and in the Hawaii State Volunteer Organizations in Disaster Relief (HSVOAD.) In 2017, Liz was selected by the Hawaii Primary Care Association to represent the State of HI at the Primary Care Emergency Preparedness Network’s CMS Emergency Preparedness Final Rule Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, and then conducted a training for HI FQHC’s in August of 2018, on how to comply with policies mandated for health facilities. Liz developed and maintains Waikiki Health’s Emergency Management Plan.
