Kate Maroney

Kate Maroney currently serves as the External Communications Division Director for Wake County, a position held since May 2024. Prior to this role, Kate was the Associate Director of Media Relations at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from January 2017 to April 2024 and worked as a Senior Communications Specialist for the City of Charlotte, where media relations were managed for the Corporate Communications and Marketing division. Earlier experience includes serving as Public Information Coordinator for the Arkansas Department of Human Services and Public Information Specialist for the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality. Kate began a career in journalism, holding positions as a reporter for KFSM Channel 5 News and as News Director for UATV Channel 14. Educationally, Kate holds a Master's Degree in Strategic Communications from Washington State University and a Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Arkansas.
