John I. Williams

John is the Co-Chair of Walnut Hill’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Committee. He is a Venture Partner with Extension Engine, a digital learning company based in Cambridge, MA, and was formerly President of Muhlenberg College, a liberal arts college in Allentown, PA. During his professional career, John has served as a Strategy Consultant at Bain & Company; a Partner at the Bridgespan Group, a nonprofit strategy firm; a Senior Executive at American Express; Vice President of Consulting at Eduventures; and CEO of two successful startup ventures. He currently sits on the boards of Linear Air, a private aviation firm, and Karson Management (Bermuda) Limited, a structured-finance company. Nonprofit boards he currently serves include Kent School and the Harvard Business School Association of Boston; previous ones include the NYC-based Prep for Prep and Boston’s Museum of African American History. John mentors Harvard University students at the Harvard Innovation Labs, and serves as a Life Trustee of Amherst College. He graduated from Kent School and holds a B.A., magna cum laude, from Amherst College, an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
