Mark Shields is a seasoned communications professional with over 15 years of experience in strategic communications and public affairs. Currently serving as the Senior Communications Officer for the Environment Program at the Walton Family Foundation since May 2019, Mark has also operated as a self-employed Communications & Strategy Consultant since February 2016, working with notable clients such as the Walton Family Foundation, Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, and AARP. Previously, Mark held leadership roles at Spitfire Strategies as Vice President, where campaigns for progressive nonprofits were developed, and at the National Park Foundation as Communications Director. Earlier in the career, Mark managed media relations at the Human Rights Campaign and the American Red Cross. Mark holds a Bachelor's degree in Broadcast and Electronic Communications from Marquette University.
