Naomi Starobin

Naomi Starobin has a diverse and extensive work experience. Naomi is currently working at WAMU 88.5 as the Deputy News Director, Audio, and previously served as the Interim News Director and Editor. Prior to joining WAMU 88.5, they worked as a Media Consultant and Editor for various public radio stations and universities. Naomi also served as an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University - Graduate School of Journalism.

Before their time at WAMU, they held significant roles at WHYY, where they served as the Radio General Manager and Managing Editor for Keystone Crossroads, a CPB grant-funded statewide journalism collaboration in Pennsylvania. Their work at WHYY involved overseeing operations, improving underwriting sound, coaching reporters and hosts, and monitoring audience metrics.

Naomi also has experience in the public media industry, serving as a Board Member for PRNDI (now Public Media Journalists Association) and Public Radio News Directors Inc. (now Public Media Journalists Association).

Earlier in their career, Naomi worked at WSHU Public Radio as the News Director and as a Reporter and Host. Naomi also worked as a Factchecker for Consumer Reports and as a Researcher for the Pulse of the Planet radio show. Prior to their career in media, they worked as an Environmental Scientist/Planner at Malcolm Pirnie.

Naomi Starobin obtained a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degree in Environmental Engineering and Environmental Science from the University of Pennsylvania, where they studied from 1978 to 1981. Later on, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Science and Radio from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, attending from 1997 to 1999.
