John Spencer served as the Deputy Director of the Modern War Institute at West Point from May 2016 to June 2018. In this role, they supervised all aspects of the institute, including teaching, scholarship, and research programs, symposia, and website. John also served as a Course Director and Assistant Professor in the Defense and Strategic Studies Program for the Strategic Studies Capstone Course and Introduction to Strategic Studies Course.
From June 2013 to July 2014, Spencer served as Senior Advisor to the Chief of Staff of the Army Strategic Studies Group (CSA SSG). In this role, they advised the highest ranking general officer in the U.S. Army on a variety of topics, including strategy development, policy analysis, organizational structure, and culture.
Spencer is currently a Colonel and the Director of Urban Warfare Training for the 40th Infantry Division Californial Army National Guard. John is also the Chair of Urban Warfare Studies for the Madison Policy Forum and the founder of Spencer Solutions, LLC.
John Spencer has a Master of Policy Management from Georgetown University, a Bachelor of Science in Management Studies from the University of Maryland Global Campus, and is a graduate of the Infantry Officer Captain Career Course and the US Army IOBC.
