Leslie Wingard Cunningham currently serves as the Associate Provost for Faculty Development and Professor of English and Africana Studies at Washington and Lee University since January 2023. Previously, Cunningham held various roles at The College of Wooster from August 2008, including Mildred Foss Thompson Endowed Chair and Professor of English, as well as administrative positions such as Dean for Faculty Development and Interim VP of Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity. Additional experience includes a fellowship at the Delaware Art Museum as the Alfred Appel, Jr. Summer Curatorial Fellow in African American Art, and a postdoctoral fellowship at Williams College focused on visual culture. Educational qualifications encompass a MA and PhD in English from UCLA, a BA in English from Spelman College, and a graduate fellowship at Princeton University. Research interests include Black literature, cultural studies, and the intersection of literature with black film and visual art.
