Senior Civil And Structural Engineer

Luiz Vieira, Ph.D., P.E., currently serves as a Senior Civil and Structural Engineer at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and an Adjunct Professor at The Catholic University of America. With extensive experience in academia and engineering, Luiz co-founded the initiative "Tênis, para quem te quer!" in 2015 and has held roles as an Eisenhower Fellow since 2019. Prior to WMATA, Luiz worked as a Senior Consulting Engineer and Senior Project Consultant at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH). Luiz's academic career includes positions as Associate Professor and Assistant Professor at Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Assistant Professor at the University of New Haven, and Visiting Professor at The Johns Hopkins University. Luiz holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering and multiple degrees in Civil and Structural Engineering from renowned institutions.
