David L. Mayer

David Mayer currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Washington Metrorail Safety Commission, becoming the first leader of this newly established rail transit State Safety Oversight Agency since June 2018. Mayer has a wealth of experience in safety and governance roles, including serving as a Trustee and Vice Chair of ECRI Institute, where the focus is on evidence-based healthcare and medical device evaluation. Previous roles include Chief Safety Officer at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in New York, and various leadership positions at the National Transportation Safety Board, including Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer. Mayer holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in Human Factors from Rice University and a B.A. in Psychology from Centenary College of Louisiana.
