Sharmila Samarasinghe

Sharmila Samarasinghe serves as the Deputy CEO and Chief Operating Officer at the Washington Metrorail Safety Commission since August 2018, concurrently holding the role of Rail Transit Safety Programs Administrator and Chair of the Tri State Oversight Committee at the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation since October 2012. In previous positions, Sharmila was the Manager of Safety and Security at Virginia Railway Express from July 2008 to October 2012, overseeing the System Safety and Security Program. Sharmila's educational background includes a degree in Sustainable Systems and a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Environmental Planning from Slippery Rock University, along with formative education at St. Bridget's Convent in Colombo 07.
