Anson Fatland is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in leadership and innovation across various sectors, including outdoor stewardship, higher education, and global health. Currently serving as Treasurer and Board Member for Washington Trails Association since October 2022, Fatland plays a vital role in promoting hiking and protecting public lands. At the University of Washington, Fatland has held the position of Associate Vice Provost for Innovation Strategy and Ventures since June 2020. Previous experience includes serving as Chief of Staff at North Forty Staffing, Vice Chair of the Washington Global Health Alliance, and Board Chair of the Composites Recycling Technology Center. Fatland's earlier roles include Associate Vice President for Economic Development and External Affairs at Washington State University and Senior Program Officer at the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation. Anson holds multiple degrees, including an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley, and a PhD in Chemistry from Washington State University.

Washington Trails Association has a 50 year legacy of engaging the hiking community. WTA enhances hiking experiences in Washington by empowering a diverse and growing community of hikers to explore, steward and protect trails and public lands. WTA is the nation’s largest state-based hiking advocacy and trail maintenance organization, with more than 27,000 members, thousands of volunteers each year, and an online community of more than 500,000. WTA’s annual budget is approximately $8 million. We believe that hiking has a positive impact on people’s hearts and minds and want to ensure that there are trails for everyone, forever.
