Kelly Smits

Kelly Smits is a Public Scholarship Editorial Specialist at Washington University in St. Louis since December 2024. Previously, Smits worked as an Education and Environment Reporter for the Belleville News-Democrat from July 2023 to November 2024, and held various reporting roles, including a contributor position at PolitiFact Wisconsin and an intern at Green Bay Press-Gazette. Smits has experience with journalism and media programs at the Stanley Center for Peace and Security and the Arms Control Association. Earlier career roles include a receptionist at Dessange Paris and an Ink Room Technician at Green Bay Packaging. Smits holds a Joint Master's degree in Journalism and International Affairs with a focus on Environmental Policy from Sciences Po, alongside a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from American University.
