Mariluz Cristina Garcia

Mariluz Cristina Garcia, Ph.D., is a Washoe County Commissioner for District 3 since January 2023 and has served as the Executive Director of Dean's Future Scholars at the University of Nevada, Reno since July 2012, where the program supports low-income, first-generation students in achieving high school graduation and college enrollment. In addition to founding the Nevada First-Gen Network from January 2022 to January 2023, Garcia worked as a middle school counselor in the Washoe County School District from 2007 to 2012 and as an Americorps Volunteer with the "I Have a Dream" Foundation of Boulder County from 2003 to 2004. Garcia holds a Doctorate in Equity and Diversity in Education, a Master's in School Counseling, and a Bachelor's in Elementary Education, all from the University of Nevada, Reno.
