Ukeme Essien

Ukeme Essien has extensive work experience in various roles and organizations. From 2014 to present, they have worked at WaterAid as the Head of Strategy, Effectiveness & Learning/Project Director for the Covid-19 Response project, where they led a team of 10 staff members and managed the project across 6 states. Ukeme also played a key role in proposal development and program management, as well as conducting monitoring and evaluation activities.

Prior to their role at WaterAid, Ukeme worked at Firstbridge Ltd in 2014 as an Executive Director. In this position, they led the recruitment process for Girl Effect, an international NGO, and developed proposals for various organizations.

From 2013 to 2014, Ukeme worked as a Finance Consultant at WaterAid, where they handled finance management tasks such as cash flow projections and finance checks.

Before that, Ukeme had a long-term role at IOM - UN Migration, starting in 2003. Ukeme held various positions within the organization, including Head of Finance and Administration in Chad and Nigeria. In these roles, they were responsible for finance management, staff training, procurement, budget management, and asset management.

In 1995 and 1996, Ukeme Essien obtained a Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Calabar. From 1997 to 2000, they pursued a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Accounting at the same university.

In 2007, Ukeme Essien attended Project Management College UK and earned an Executive Masters in Project Management.

In 2017, they obtained the Project Management for Development Professional (PMDPro) certification from APMG International.

In 2018, Ukeme Essien attended the Center for International Development - Harvard and earned a certificate in Building State Capability using PDIA (Problem Driven Iterative Adaptation) with a focus on Institutional Reform.

Also in 2018, they obtained a certificate in Leadership and Management in Public Health from the University of Washington with a specialization in Organizational Leadership.
