Paul K. Pernerewski, Jr. currently serves as the Mayor of Waterbury since December 2023. With extensive leadership experience, Pernerewski has been the Chairman of the Board of Directors at The Palace Theater since 2005 and a Director and Executive Committee Member of the Waterbury Development Corporation since 2002. Previously, Pernerewski held the position of President of the Board of Aldermen for the City of Waterbury until December 2023 and served as General Counsel for the Connecticut Airport Authority from 2013 to 2023. Pernerewski began a legal career as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Connecticut, spanning from 1986 to 2013. Academically, Pernerewski earned a Doctor of Law (J.D.) from Georgetown University Law Center and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Business Administration and Management from the University of Connecticut, graduating Summa Cum Laude.

Waterbury Development Corporation
The Waterbury Development Corporation (WDC) is the City of Waterbury’s designated non-profit economic and community organization. The Corporation was founded as a partnership of the public and private sectors to help the City of Waterbury, its businesses, and its residents revitalize their city, stimulate and support economic development, promote investment in education, rehabilitate and maintain the city’s housing stock, eliminate urban blight and decay, manage construction projects, and improve the overall quality of life. WDC is governed by the Board of Directors. All projects and contractual obligations are reviewed and approved by the Board. The composition is dictated by City Ordinance. The members are a combination of Aldermen, the Mayor or their designee, members of community groups, the NAACP, and representatives from various business interests. The Board meets monthly and meetings are open to the public.
