Dr. Joyce Sylvester currently serves as Dijkgraaf for Waterschap Amstel, Gooi en Vecht and holds advisory positions at Oorlogsgravenstichting and Comenius Museum, along with a role as Academic Fellow at Universiteit Utrecht. As chairperson of the Staatscommissie tegen Discriminatie en Racisme, Dr. Sylvester focuses on addressing issues of discrimination and racism. Previously, Dr. Sylvester worked as a columnist for Algemeen Dagblad bv and served as Substituut Ombudsman for De Nationale Ombudsman, overseeing citizen complaints against government actions. Dr. Sylvester's notable political experience includes serving as Senator in the Eerste Kamer der Staten-Generaal and interim Mayor for the municipalities of Naarden and Anna Paulowna, where significant mergers were facilitated. Dr. Sylvester holds a doctorate in Staats- en bestuursrecht from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and degrees in Communication Science, Political Science, and Cultural Anthropology from various universities.
