David Wachira, PhD, is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in fintech and international development. As Co-founder and CEO of Waya since April 2019, David has successfully led the creation of a fintech startup focused on mobile banking products for underbanked immigrant communities, achieving significant growth metrics. Prior to this, David served in various roles at The World Bank between 2013 and 2022, including Co-founder and COO, where responsibilities included managing a $100 million trust fund for extractive governance and enhancing public financial management in multiple African countries. David's academic background includes positions as an Assistant Professor and Adjunct Professor, alongside a PhD in Public Administration and Management from the University of North Texas.
