Alexander Piggott

Alexander Piggott is a highly experienced engineer specializing in hardware and photonics. Currently serving as a Senior Hardware Engineer at Waymo since November 2020, Piggott focuses on the development of next-generation LiDAR systems. Prior experience includes a role as Silicon Photonics Senior Scientist at Pointcloud Inc, where innovations included the invention and patenting of novel solid-state LiDAR architecture, along with the design and demonstration of a fully solid-state LiDAR chip. Piggott's academic background includes a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, where research centered on nanophotonic devices under the guidance of Professor Jelena Vuckovic, and a BASc in Engineering Physics from the University of Toronto. Additional experience includes a research internship at Oculus VR, concentrating on AR display technologies.
