Jie Yang

Jie Yang is an experienced software engineer specializing in AI and machine learning applications in medical imaging and self-driving technology. Currently serving as a Senior Software Engineer at Waymo since November 2020, Jie Yang focuses on self-driving car perception systems. Prior to this, Jie Yang worked at Google from February 2019 to November 2020, contributing to AI/ML solutions for medical image applications within Google Health Research. Jie's research background includes significant projects at Columbia University, such as lung cancer prediction and image segmentation for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) diagnosis, complemented by a research internship at Siemens Healthineers, where advanced techniques for lung nodule malignancy classification were applied. Academically, Jie Yang holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical/Medical Engineering from Columbia University and a B.S. in the same field from Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
