Matthew Schwall

Matthew Schwall is an experienced leader in safety and engineering, currently serving as the Director of Safety & Incident Management at Waymo since May 2018. Prior to this role, Matthew held the position of Director of Field Performance Engineering at Tesla Motors from September 2014 to May 2018, where responsibilities included managing safety-related risks and acting as the company's primary technical liaison to global safety regulatory agencies. Earlier in a career that spans nearly a decade, Matthew worked as a Managing Engineer at Exponent, specializing in mechanical engineering and providing expert advice to industrial and legal clients in the transportation sector. Matthew Schwall holds multiple degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, including a Ph.D. and a Master’s degree, as well as a Bachelor’s degree.
