Wayne County Third Circuit Court
Judge Karen Braxton has served as a Judge of the Wayne County Third Circuit Court since January 2013, specializing in juvenile delinquency, abuse and neglect cases, juvenile guardianships, and child custody matters. As a member of the Foster Care Review Board Advisory Committee for the Michigan Supreme Court, Karen contributes to improving foster care programs statewide. Involved with organizations such as Hope 4 America and We Care Foster Care, Karen advocates for Detroit youth and connects community resources to enhance child welfare. Holding the Child Welfare Law Specialist certification from the National Association of Counsel for Children, Karen also serves on the Board of Directors of NACC. Prior to judicial service, Karen operated a solo law practice focusing on child welfare for nearly nine years. Karen earned a Juris Doctor degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government from the University of Rochester.
