Betsy Freedman Doherty has over 30 years of work experience in various roles related to communications, development, alumni relations, and fundraising. Betsy currently holds the position of Director of Communications and Development at Wayside Youth & Family Support Network. Prior to this, they served as the Executive Director of the RISD Fund at the Rhode Island School of Design, where they developed a strategic plan for philanthropic engagement. Betsy also worked as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Alumni Relations and UMass Boston Fund at the University of Massachusetts Boston, where they fostered outreach and engagement among the university's alumni. Betsy has also held positions at Providence College, Tufts University, Clark University, Wellesley College, and Worcester Foundation for Biomedical Research/University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Betsy'sresponsibilities in these roles included managing annual giving programs, directing fundraising events, coordinating publications, and managing external conferences and summer programs. Betsy brings a wealth of experience and expertise in communications, development, and alumni relations to their current role.
Betsy Freedman Doherty completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Economics from Framingham State University from 1981 to 1985. In 1990, they pursued postbaccalaureate studies at Wellesley College, with a focus on an unspecified field of study. During this program, they achieved a commendable GPA of 4.0. Additionally, in May 2021, Betsy obtained a certification as a Real Estate Agent from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Founded in 1977, Wayside Youth & Family Support Network is a nonprofit, nationally accredited human services agency dedicated to building strength, hope and resiliency through its family-based outreach services, residential treatment programs, and community-based counseling services to thousands of children, youth and families throughout Central, Eastern and Northeastern Massachusetts.
