Willoughby Mariano is an accomplished journalist with extensive experience in investigative reporting. Currently serving as a Senior Reporter at WBUR since February 2024, Willoughby focuses on investigative stories for the NPR member station in Boston. Prior to this role, a significant tenure at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution from May 2010 to February 2024 involved collaboratively and independently working on impactful projects related to housing, criminal justice, and corruption, earning multiple national and local awards. Willoughby achieved notable legislative outcomes and judicial convictions through investigative efforts. A Nieman Fellow at Harvard from August 2020 to May 2021, coursework focused on housing policy, race, and literature. Earlier experience includes criminal justice reporting at the Orlando Sentinel and a trainee position at the Los Angeles Times. Willoughby graduated from Yale University with a BA in English in 1999.
