Doug Summers-Stay has a diverse work experience in the field of computer science and education. Doug started their career as a Math Teacher in Public Schools from 2000 to 2003. Doug then worked as a Research Computer Scientist (Intern) at Philips Research from 2005 to 2006. Following that, they joined the Air Force Research Laboratory as a Computer Science Researcher from 2006 to 2010. Doug later became a Computer Science Researcher at the Army Research Laboratory in 2010. In 2020, Doug served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Baltimore, teaching cognitive science for Interface Design majors, and also worked as a Game Developer (consultant) at Latitude. Currently, they are a Game Developer at Webaverse since November 2022.

Doug Summers-Stay has an extensive education history. Doug obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Math Education from Brigham Young University, starting in 1993 and completing it in 2000. Following this, Doug pursued a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Computer Science at New York University from 2004 to 2006. Doug then proceeded to earn a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, which they attended from 2008 to 2013. In October 2013, Doug received their PhD from the University of Maryland.
